Melancholy Paintings in Muted Colours that Express a Beautiful Sadness

In his series Melancholy, Korean artist Sungsoo Kim uses beautiful muted tones to paint his moody subjects, which seem to portray a less colourful view on life and the world in general.

Each of his contemplative subjects are created using oil and acrylic, and they come in a variety of pale shades, except for their eyes which seem to leap off the canvas. This effect really adds a strong expressiveness to each painting, as the eyes are meant to be the gateway to the soul.

Sungsoo Kim has exhibited all over the world, including in Hong Kong, Taipei and Istanbul. To discover more visit Artsy. (By Katy Cowan via CreativeBoom).
